Best Travel Gadgets and Accessories

Have a passion for technical devices? If you are all set for the holiday and are a tech-savvy like me then you’ve come to the right place! Since we can’t carry every convenience of home while travelling, there are some essentials gadgets which definitely deserve to go in your luggage.

I’ve come up with the most essential, useful and best travel gadgets and accessories (apart from the absolute necessities like a smartphone, laptop and camera) to take on holidays. Complete your holiday packing with these gadgets and gizmos of this year that will be sure to make your holiday that extra bit enjoyable and stress-free.

1. Smart Luggage

This is Aerolite Smart Luggage which features an innovative new Smartlock technology. Download the app, connect with your suitcase and you’re ready to go. It can be locked/unlocked with the touch of a button or even switch to auto mode. Your suitcase will automatically unlock itself when it is within Bluetooth range and lock itself when it moves out of range.

You can also enable notifications on your mobile, which will notify you when your suitcase enters or leaves your location. The lock is supplied with an emergency key in case your mobile device fails, and the lock is TSA-approved too for easy clearance to the United States!

The suitcase features a built-in digital luggage scale in the top carry handle. Weight displayed includes the weight of the suitcase itself, and units can be displayed in Kilograms (Kg), Pounds (lb) or ounces (oz) to 2 decimal places.

This suitcase has a built-in USB Charger Port – Simply connect up your powerpack (not provided) and charge your mobile device or tablet on the go! The best part is that this company provide a fantastic 5-year guarantee!

2. Solar Powerbank

To keep our gadgets charged all the time is very important on holidays especially if you are going to spend long periods of time away from plugs such as hiking, climbing or camping. Solar powered powerbank comes handy at such times as it just requires UV rays to charge up. Although, it also has the ability to be charged via USB.

My current favourite is Bernet Portable Solar Power Bank. This portable charger has high 3 USB Charging Output and 2 charging input. It can charge three devices at a time which offer 2.4A high-speed charging. External backup can be recharged using either lightning or micro USB cable.

This power bank is made of eco-friendly silicone rubber material with rubber paint surface process and is very comfortable to use and easy to clean.

3. Wireless Bluetooth Speaker

Bose SoundLink Mini Bluetooth Speaker is durable, water resistant and light-weight enough to take with you however the day unfolds. You can enjoy upto 8 hours of music and is rechargeable via Micro-B USB. There’s even a built-in speakerphone to handle calls without holding your phone.

You can download the Bose Connect app to drag and drop Bluetooth connections, unlock features and access updates down the line. It’s easy-touch silicone texture that won’t slip out of your hand when you’re on the move and very simple to use voice prompts. As for the price, it’s quite reasonable for its quality and sound.

4. Noise Cancelling Headphone

Noise cancelling headphone is probably the best travel investment I have made. It’s a must have to shut out the outside noise especially on a flight and to relax without getting disturbed by chatting passengers and crying babies.

My best pick for the noise cancelling headphone is the Bose QuietComfort 35. It’s comfortable and lightweight and made with premium materials. These wireless headphones are engineered with world-class noise cancellation, making quiet sound quieter and music sound richer.

It connects easily to your devices with Bluetooth and NFC pairing and gives a balanced audio performance at any volume with optimised EQ, while a noise-rejecting dual microphone provides clear calls, even in windy or noisy environments. The battery life is 20 hours per charge and up to 40 hours in wired mode.

Though it’s a little expensive at £279, it is worth for your peace and quiet. There are some low-cost options available too if you prefer not to spend too much on such a device. Click Here to view the complete list of low-cost Noise Cancelling Headphones.

5. E-Reader

Nothing better than lying in the sun with a good book! Many hardcore readers swear by Kindle because it’s so easy to read outside your home comfort. If you read a lot while travelling, and even on your holidays, a good Kindle e-reader is probably the best bet.

The best thing I like about e-readers is that they are purposely designed for just reading. I can enjoy reading without interruptions such as e-mail alerts or push notifications.

Amazon’s Kindle Paperwhite E-reader has an improved high-resolution 300 ppi display for very clear and crisp, print-quality text and the battery charge lasts weeks not just hours! Unlike reflective tablet and smartphone screens, the Kindle reads like paper. So no annoying glare, even in bright sunlight!

6. Amazon Fire Stick

Okay, this one I would not consider in the list of “essential” gadgets, however, for some people this can really come handy, allowing them to enjoy their favourite TV shows anywhere in the world and not be confined to the laptop screen.

No larger than a USB stick, simply plug your Fire TV Stick into an HDTV and start watching. With over 7,000 apps, games and Alexa skills, including Prime Video, BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, Netflix, and more, this small device is the perfect gadget for travelling.

With 8 GB of storage and 1 GB of memory for apps and games, a quad-core processor, plus 802.11ac Wi-Fi promises a fast streaming and smooth performance. The USB stick and remote are small enough and weigh very little to fit the bill and easily deserve inclusion in your carry-on.

7. Mobile Wi-Fi

Data roaming can turn out to be really expensive. I would not prefer to pay for internet on my phone, tablet and all the kids’ devices. Mobile WiFi hotspot lets you share a mobile connection from a single SIM with up to 10 devices, meaning you pay only once. I highly recommend Huawei E5577 which is practical, portable and powerful. It’s a superb travel companion with an ultra-fast download speed of up to 150 Mbps. It has a rechargeable battery with 6 hours working time and also equipped with parental control and guest network.

This mobile WiFi hotspot device is quite compact and weighs a little over 100g — makes it a perfect pocket-sized solution to low-cost travel Wi-Fi!

  3. Wonderful article. I especially like the smart luggage. Who knew a suitcase could be so clever. I will have to get one before my next trip. hopefully the hubby is still planning a cruise. thank you

  4. What a great list of fantastic travel gadgets! I have to bookmark this post because there are 3 must haves for me. Notably, I my favorites are the Solar Power Bank, the Mobile Wi-Fi and the Noise Cancelling Headphone. In fact, I looked on Amazon and eBay 2 days ago for headphone with a mic. Any suggestion for this one?

  5. Awesome list of gadgets and accessories! Great job Jyoti. I really need an e-reader for my trip! I like reading and I find that it’s so much better to read on that device that on a computer. Thanks for the ideas!

    1. Thank you Benjamin. Glad you liked the post. E-reader definitely is a must have for our love for reading.

  6. Oh wow, two things that caught my eye there were solar power bank (what a definite must have for camping) and noise cancelling headphones.

Now every time I go on holiday I always seem to end up in a hotel room next to the most noisiest people in the whole complex which can totally ruin your holiday if you let it. I’m such a light sleeper that ear plugs are not that effective on me. I know this may be a silly question but as you have a pair do you think that these would be comfortable to actually sleep with on your head even in a normal bed? If so i’m buying lol

    1. Thank you for stopping by Stefanie. It is indeed very annoying when you cannot relax on holiday because of noisy people around.
There are noise cancelling earphones available as well. That will be more comfortable while sleeping than the headphone. So I would advise you to go for a pair of noise cancelling earphone instead for a comfortable sleep and they work as good as the headphone. Hope that helps.

      1. Thanks Jyoti, I had no idea that these things even existed. This could be a life changer for me as noise at nigh, even if it’s very slight, keeps me awake and I get more and more stressed. I’m looking into it and I will go through your link when I do as you deserve the credit 🙂

        1. Your very welcome Stefanie. I’m glad this post could be of some help.
Thank you for the encouragement. Much appreciated.

  7. wow! thank you for this information and because of this I never have to worry again about my next travel! though, I am always bringing my pocket wifi wherever I go 🙂
