World First Travel Insurance Review

Why Travel Insurance?

For many people, organising a Travel Insurance is something of an afterthought. But finding a policy that suits you and your travel plans could be the most important travel decision. Sometimes that means really examining the specifics of the available policies, rather than just going with whichever is cheapest.

We all know the importance of Travel Insurance. Still, about 40% of people go abroad without travel insurance, risking the huge medical fees in case of illness or accident, according to a survey done by The Association of British Travel Agents. If something goes wrong and you need treatment abroad the costs can be astronomical.

Even in Europe, where the EHIC card will cover you for the same medical treatment locals are entitled to, you still need travel insurance. During health crisis emergency, worrying about finances could be anybody’s worst nightmare! Hence a good Travel Insurance from a reputed company is really important.

Another thing to keep in mind is that reading and understanding your policy is of great significance. A few extra minutes spent doing your homework is well worth it if you end up with a policy that you know you can really trust.

Tips for Reading Your Travel Insurance Policy

All travel insurance policies have a list of reminders and conditions of policy usage, often at the beginning of the Policy Wording. The points are generally straightforward and apply to the majority of policies. Here is the summary and few tips to help you at the time of buying one.

1. There is a cooling-off period of 14 days from the date your policy is issued. During this time you can cancel your policy and receive a full refund if you think it’s not quite right.

2. If there is a change in risk associated with your trip, you must let your insurance company know. For example, if you declared a pre-existing medical condition when you took out your insurance, you must let your policy providers know if your health declines before your trip. Failure to do so could invalidate your policy.

3. Make sure the minimum claim limits of your policy are enough to cover the items you intend to take on holiday.

4. Many insurers do not automatically provide cover for sports and outdoor activities. If you are planning to get active on your holidays, make sure you are covered, in case of injury during the action.

5. If you are thinking of riding a motorbike on holiday, check your policy covers you. Not all insurers offer this cover.

6. If you are buying annual travel insurance, make sure the start date is “today” and not the actual date you travel, otherwise you may not be covered for cancellation claims.

Travel Insurance for pre-existing medical conditions

It can be very hard to get a travel insurance cover if you are living with a medical condition. Some companies might not even offer it at all. So if you’ve struggled to find an insurance cover elsewhere, World First can help. They cover many conditions that other insurers won’t.

World First offers comprehensive cover for thousands of medical conditions, for travellers aged up to 100 years. From Angina to Cancer, HIV and Heart disease, Alzheimer’s, Crohn’s to name a few.

Many companies do not cover pregnant travellers, especially in the later stages of pregnancy. World First’s policies contain no exclusions for pregnant travellers providing it’s not a multiple pregnancy and there are no previous childbirth complications.

Just like any other business or company, there is bound to be some unhappy customers as well. As they say, you can’t please everyone. You would agree with me if I say that unhappy customers are a lot more tempted to leave a bad review online than the satisfied ones. This is true for restaurants, dentists, car dealerships and of course travel insurance.

I managed to find a few negative World First reviews and complaints online and I came to the conclusion that these reviews were written for personal reasons. Mistakes happen, misunderstanding happens and every single business will have at least one customer who isn’t going to be happy.

it’s just not possible for any business that each and every customer is 100% satisfied. My point is that out of 5,866 online reviews, World First only got 1% negative reviews from customers. How much does that tell you about a company? This is my tried and tested company. I’m using their services for the last 5 years and I’m glad to say that they have never let me down.

That was my World First Travel Insurance Review. Hope this information helps you when deciding on a very important aspect of your holidays – Buying a Travel Insurance.

Have you got any experience to share with our readers? Or a question/suggestion, please leave it in the comment box. I’ll be glad to know and answer your questions. Thank you for reading.

  1. Great tips for getting a travel insurance! The world first travel insurance seems pretty good on the conditions and pricing. I have a pretty good travel insurance included in my trade union membership but I might check them out if I decide to change my insurance company. Thanks!

    1. Thank you Jukka for stopping by. Glad you found the information useful. Yes, it’s a pretty good company with reasonable rates. It’s my fifth year with them and very happy overall.

  3. I bought travelers insurance one time, because the trip was iffy. I did not read the fine print, and when the trip got cancelled (which said was covered) I did not get anything. I guess there were only a handful of reasons for a cancelled trip when they would cover. I was a little upset to say the least! This is worth checking into , thanks!

    1. Reading the fine print is really important when you buy a travel insurance or any insurance for that matter. Otherwise, the whole purpose goes waste. Thank you for stopping by and sharing your experience.

  4. I always spend a lot of time looking for the best travel insurance to cover my trips abroad. I normally go for Ameican Express, but this one might actually be better suited for me. Thanks for sharing!

  5. I enjoyed reading all your tips, and all the ideas and information on the insurance. I never considered travel insurance before but now I’m going to look into it thank you for your article.

    1. I’m glad you enjoyed reading and found the information useful. Thank you for stopping by. Much appreciated.

  6. Great review, I’ve been living in Ireland for a while. Is it a company based in the UK or does it extend to Ireland as well?
Also, you make a great point telling us that it’s important to get a travel insurance. I made the mistake of not taking one when going to Chile, and as I’m staying there, I’m going to need an insurance.

    Thanks a lot.

    1. Thank you for sharing your experience Benjamin. Much appreciated. World first is a UK based company but it does cover Ireland as well.

  7. Great guide Jyoti. I have had travel insurance in the past and fortunately have never used it. Even though I have paid the extra for it I never really took note of what it included. I need to in future.

It’s good to know that you can change your policy if you have to.

  8. I like your article. Frequent travelers should make sure that they are insured before they hop into another plane or ship. You will never know what’s going to happen in the next couple of days. But if you have travel insurance, you don’t have to worry about a thing 😉

    1. Thank you for stopping by Mario. Glad that you liked the post. Much appreciated.
